11 Sep Did You Know: October is Canada’s Healthy Workplace Month

Many of us associate October with Thanksgiving and Halloween, and rightfully so. But did you know that it’s also Canada’s Healthy Workplace Month?
Throughout October, many workplaces across Canada will be organizing initiatives and activities that encourage a healthy lifestyle at work for their employees. The activities will include things like talks on workplace wellness, healthy lunches, yoga and meditation classes, fitness challenges, and many more fun and useful wellness relates events.
All of the above are excellent and important initiatives. But all I can think of is “Healthy Workplace Month is great, but what about the rest of the remaining 11 months?”It's a well known fact that happy and healthy environment is a productive environment Click To Tweet
The main goal of Canada’s Healthy Workplace Month is to increase awareness of the importance of workplace wellness, and hopefully, give the companies a few good ideas that they can implement throughout the rest of the year. Although in many companies it’s the responsibility of the HR Department or the Health and Wellness Committee, often times, a “bottom-up” approach works better than the “top-down one.” Meaning, the employees should voice themselves and ask for a better, healthier work environment throughout the year, and not only in October.When a company takes good care of its employees, the employees take good care of the company Click To Tweet
And Canada’s Healthy Workplace Month is an excellent starting point. If your workplace didn’t announce any special activities yet, inquire about it! Ask your HR department to organize something! If your workplace already has some great health and wellness activities lined up for October, make sure to attend them! And then, make sure to give your feedback! Let HR know which activities were your favourite; which made you feel healthier and happier. And finally, ask HR to incorporate those activities into your workplace throughout the year.
It’s a well known fact that a happy and healthy environment is a productive environment. So it’s a win-win situation for the company and its employees.
